Progress in Mind
At ECNP 2021, Professor Andrea Fagiolini discussed with us how, for a person with schizophrenia, symptom control as a goal is not an alternative to functionality goals but part of a holistic view of treatment. A therapeutic alliance is needed with a variety of healthcare professionals to help a patient reach and maintain their functionality goals. Once a patient is feeling well, they are more motivated to follow the steps needed to remain in remission, such as adhering to treatment. It’s important to have a long term view from initial treatment as to how side effects such as sedation may impact patient life engagement.
